Butterfly Effect

A complex universe impossible to know,

Charts and graphs, math and science never truly show

The intricacies and beauties of our fluttering surroundings,

They hide a butterfly that is quite astounding.

A simple movement, a graceful flap

Can add infinitely or even subtract

From the seemingly stable and perfect planet,

Life or death rests on a lazy man’s hammock.

This butterfly effect may be only myth

But it is the intangible idea that is truly the pith,

If man could go back and alter his sins

Would his sneeze in Rome ignite chaos in Dublin?

We cry for the past and dream for correction

But the wonderful web is beyond our detection,

What is done is done, there is no turning back

Understand the power we possess not which we lack

To track and trace the tiniest toll

Can destroy a heart or resurrect a soul,

Sail the voyage of life’s wavy sea

And watch every ripple subtly break free.

At times there can exist without a how

A natural nudge for the narcissistic now,

Sense every minute movement, never turn an eye

Lest you be fooled by the brilliant butterfly.
